STARLINK MANUFACTURING ENGINEER (LAMINATION/BONDING)
SpaceX is developing a low latency, broadband internet system to meet the needs of consumers across the globe. Enabled by a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites, Starlink will provide fast, reliable internet to populations with little or no connectivity, including those in rural communities and places where existing services are too expensive or unreliable. We are looking for talented, creative, and driven manufacturing engineers to spearhead the development of millions of consumer-facing devices that will sit in our customers’ homes. You will own the relationship between the engineering development and production teams. You will drive manufacturing tools and processes, from initial concept development to full scale production, and will interact regularly with senior leadership during critical design and production phases. The success of Starlink depends on the quality, reliability, cost, manufacturability, throughput, security, and user experience of the products that you deliver.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Take direct ownership of production lamination process and drive all improvement projects to meet desired cycle time. This includes assembly, inspection, testing, and rework
Clearly document process and ensure all parties adhere to the latest requirements
Design physical production line and establish material flow requirements for both tooling and Starlink hardware
Ensure production line tooling, inventory, training and build processes are all updated according to the latest design configuration
Define tooling requirements for tooling design engineers to enable a high volume production line
Identify automation opportunities and establish requirements as well as evaluating return on investment for each. Work with in-house resources or vendors as necessary to develop these solutions and implement on production line
Establish facilities requirement for all machinery necessary for the processes
Own prototype builds for process improvement projects as well as defining validation criteria for each change
Support production line with technical issues that cannot be addressed immediately on the line
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
1+ years of experience with manufacturing processes (internship experience qualifies)
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or an equivalent discipline
2+ years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment
Direct experience owning lamination and bonding processes with various one- or two-part epoxies or equivalent adhesive materials (e.g. pressure sensitive adhesives)
Working knowledge of bonding methods for various polymers and fiberglass materials
Ability to design tooling for high volume manufacturing
Ability to develop and maintain high performing suppliers and contract manufacturers
Experience working in a highly adaptive and iterative environment
Experience implementing automation into production processes
Experience transitioning products from design to manufacturing and scaling to high volume as part of a cross-functional team
Experience with design of experiments, gage repeatability and reproducibility, and process qualifications
Experience defining production data requirements and statistical process control
Experience integrating electromechanical assemblies with both manual and automated processes
Experience with NX and Teamcenter
Experience working with and defining requirements for ERP, MRP and MES systems
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Willing to travel domestically or internationally as needed
Available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
