TEST AUTOMATION ENGINEER (PROPULSION COMPONENTS)
The components engineering team develops the most advanced spacecraft and launch vehicle components in the world. Our engineers serve as hardware experts for the flow control devices and mechanisms that drive the critical capabilities on our Dragon, Falcon, and Starship vehicles - from engine throttling to attitude control. We design and build valves, regulators, and actuators for maximum reliability in extreme environments, with temperatures ranging from +900F to -400F and pressures beyond 10,000 psig.
Test automation engineers design, build, and implement test systems to support development, qualification, and acceptance testing of flight hardware. The creation of mechanical equipment and specialized systems to validate complex electromechanical assemblies remains a key driver of our future success. The team is looking for a mechanically-focused test automation engineer to help further develop our testing infrastructure and tools.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop mechanical and fluid systems to test and validate flight hardware
Utilize software, tools and frameworks to facilitate design and test of systems integrated electromechanical actuators, regulators, and isolation valves
Work with a cross-disciplinary team including electrical, mechanical, controls and software engineers to test and develop flight hardware
Take ownership of developing sophisticated automated-test and self-test capabilities for complex systems
Conceptualize and develop complex systems incorporating mechanical, electrical, and software requirements
Work with other groups across the organization to improve SpaceX test infrastructure
Select and integrate commercial off the shelf solutions to simulate flight hardware interactions
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or other engineering discipline
1+ years of hands on experience driving the design, manufacture, or testing and development of mechanical/electro-mechanical components or systems (internship and project team experience is applicable)
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
2+ years of experience in a test focused or product ownership role
2+ years of experience with test instrumentation, testing, and data review/analysis
Exceptional written and verbal communication with an emphasis on interpersonal and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to understand and implement solutions with an ‘end user’ focus
Demonstrated ability to use data and analysis to make fast data-driven decisions
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to climb ladders and work in tight spaces
Must be willing to work weekends and extended hours as needed
